I’ve been dabbling in crypto for a few years now. I usually kept things low-risk sticking with established coins and avoiding meme-driven hype. But all that changed when Haliey Welch, better known as the viral "Hawk Tuah" girl, launched her own token: $HAWK.

Social media was on fire. Twitter, TikTok, YouTube everyone was hyping it up like it was the next Dogecoin. "It’s going to the moon," they said. And I bought in. Hard.

The Rise and Collapse of $HAWK

When $HAWK launched, the numbers were explosive. Within hours, the token’s market cap soared to nearly $500 million. Fueled by the FOMO, I invested over $698,000, convinced I was getting in at the right time.

But within 48 hours, it all unraveled.

The price crashed dropping more than 95%. My holdings, once nearing three-quarters of a million dollars, were suddenly worth less than $48,000. Trading volume dried up. The token was dead in the water.

Worse still, it wasn’t just a bad investment. It was a trap.

Blockchain analysis showed that one wallet controlled over 29% of the supply and had dumped tokens immediately after launch, crashing the price for the rest of us. This wasn’t a normal market fluctuation. It was a textbook pump-and-dump scheme.

Finding Help: ICC Recovery

Like many victims of crypto fraud, I felt hopeless until I found ICC Recovery.

I’d read that they specialize in blockchain forensics and crypto scam investigations. I reached out. Their response was fast, professional, and incredibly thorough. They traced the stolen funds across multiple chains, identified laundering patterns, and compiled a detailed legal and technical report.

They submitted the findings to U.S. authorities and alerted several major exchanges to freeze associated accounts.

Because of their quick and decisive action, I was able to recover about 80% of my lost funds.

If you've been scammed, don't wait. Time is critical.

Lessons Learned

This experience was painful emotionally and financially, but it taught me a few powerful lessons:

  • Virality ≠ legitimacy. Just because a token is trending doesn’t mean it’s safe.

  • DYOR (Do Your Own Research) is more than just a crypto buzzword.

  • Act fast if you’ve been scammed. There are professionals out there who can help.

Thanks to ICC Recovery, I didn’t just recover a significant portion of my money — I regained my confidence. I’m sharing my story to help others avoid the same trap, and to show that even when things go wrong, it’s not always the end.

Stay safe out there.
